ROCHESTER, MINN. – Rochester Area Foundation recently awarded $100,250 in grants to 13 community nonprofits from the Foundation’s Better Communities Endowment. Additionally, $62,000 was awarded to area high school students.

We are privileged to work with families and organizations who honor their loved ones’ legacy or career paths with scholarship funds. Rochester Area Foundation currently offers 48 unique scholarships. This year $62,000 was recently awarded to students who will be starting their higher educational path in the fall.

The Rochester Area Foundation has been the philanthropic leader in the area for over 75 years. Our grant and scholarship programs are a hallmark to the impact the foundation has in the community. “We are excited to celebrate the students who were recipients of scholarships that will assist them in their next educational steps. We also continued our support to area nonprofit agencies with grants to implement projects that will directly benefit our community”, said Jennifer Woodford, President of Rochester Area Foundation. “With the partnership of our donors, we have been privileged to provide financial impact to students and local agencies”.

The following are the grants awarded for Spring Cycle of the 2020 Better Communities Grants:

Boys & Girls Club of Rochester was awarded $4,050 to train staff members.

Children’s Museum of Rochester received $4,250 to assist creating a space for autistic children and to train staff.

Code Savvy/Technovation was granted $3,500 toward Appapalooza, a coding competition for girls.

Community Dental Care received $11,050 to support their Program to Improve Community Oral Health (PICOH).

Cradle 2 Career was awarded $6,000 to provide infrastructure and individualized technical assistance to community network partners.

Damascus Way Re-entry Center will use its $5,950 grant to raise awareness about the transitional housing and evidenced based supportive services that are provided to men leaving incarceration.

Doc’s Recovery House was granted $10,000 to support its short-term housing program that offers sober housing and recovery support.

Elder Network will utilize $6,200 in funding to recruit volunteer drivers, develop partnerships with local businesses, and develop and implement a 3 month pilot non-medical transportation program.

Hispanic Advocacy and Community Empowerment through Research (HACER) was awarded $8,000 for its Creando Ando project that will foster the incorporation of Latinx businesses in the city.

Legal Assistance of Olmsted County received a $15,000 award to provide legal clinics.

Revolutionary Earth was awarded $3,200 to secure supplies and equipment.

Rochester Public Library was granted $13,050 for the Welcoming Spaces project.

Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services will use $10,000 to support a project to prevent evictions by providing free legal help and access to financial resources.
