We’ve got answers!

What Scholarships are Available?

The list of scholarships available through Rochester Area Foundation can be found here.

How Do I Apply for a Scholarship?

The basic instructions are here. If you have specific questions or are having trouble with something, contact the Rochester Area Foundation at 507-282-0203 or email carrie@rochesterarea.org.

Are All Scholarships Need-Based?

Some of our scholarship donors have elected to make need one of the considerations during the selection process and some have not. If you are applying for need-based scholarships you will be required to submit information from the FAFSA.

How is Financial Need Determined?

Students/families seeking financial assistance should begin the process by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Through detailed information provided on the application, a Student Aid Report (SAR) is issued. Information from the SAR is used to complete financial questions on the application.

May I Receive a Scholarship From More Than One Fund?

Yes. If you are eligible for more than one scholarship, it is possible that you will be selected to receive an award from more than one RAF scholarship fund.

Do I Have to Apply for Each Scholarship Individually?

Yes. However, the Apply RAF Scholarship Portal will allow you to copy your answers between scholarships.

Is an Unofficial Transcript of My Grades Okay?

Yes, an unofficial transcript or Internet printout of your transcript is acceptable as long as it is clearly labeled with your name, current academic year, your cumulative grade point average, and the name of the college/university. For high school seniors, your first semester senior-year grades must be recorded, along with your cumulative grade point average. Grade point average must be reported based on a 4.0 unweighted scale.

If I Am Awarded a Scholarship, How Much Will I Receive and How is it Paid?

Most awards are a one-time award and range from $500 to $2,000, although some may be larger. Checks are made payable to the college and mailed directly there once you have accepted the scholarship award.

Can I Use an RAF Scholarship at any College?

Yes. Most scholarships are for any accredited not-for-profit post-secondary institution in the U.S., although a few have some restrictions, listed in the application.
